WHO ARE WE?
Hope Mission Christian Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit Christian ministry which seeks to serve disadvantaged persons of Carteret County. Through ministries of food, compassion, emergency finances, prayer, and other means of support, our volunteers seek to assist with human need. Our volunteers come largely from churches throughout the county.

WHO DO WE HELP?
Most residents of Carteret County can be considered for assistance. Service is rendered without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, gender, or age.

WHAT DO WE DO?

SOUP KITCHEN MINISTRY
Our soup kitchen is operated six days a week (M-S) at 1410 Bridges St., Morehead City, from 11:00 AM to 12:50 PM. An average of 107 free hot lunches are served daily by volunteers to any who need and desire a meal.

OUTREACH MINISTRY (Emergency Financial Assistance)
Our outreach ministry provides emergency financial aid to those it can serve through the paying of bills which threaten to leave persons without electricity, fuel, rent, and other such essentials. Our Caregivers seek to give counsel as well as assistance. This ministry operates each Monday and Wednesday from 1:30 to 4:30 PM at the soup kitchen. Weekly, an average of $1200.00 is dispersed.

SHELTER MINISTRY
We are a men's shelter, during the day, guests are given assignments including but not limited to the following: volunteering at the mission, attending treatment, securing social security cards, securing other identification, following up on job opportunities, visiting the community college, searching for housing and visiting the Employment Security Commission. Guests are taught life skills and are encouraged to participate in Bible study during the week and attend the church of their choice on Sunday. We always need volunteers and provide volunteer training for those interested in volunteering.

OTHER SERVICES
Our ministry seeks to provide other services in the case of special emergencies. Assistance may be given to burned-out families, major medical needs, burial assistance, transportation, as well as information about other services. We pray with and for our clients.

HOW ARE WE ORGANIZED?
A Board of Directors who are active Christians and local church members and pastors in Carteret County oversee this ministry. Committees of the Board operate these ministries and an Executive Director keeps things running smoothly.

HOW ARE WE FINANCED?
Hope Mission Christian Ministries is financed largely by contributions from churches, civic groups, and several hundred individuals. Funding is provided by several general appeals to individuals, special appeals to civic and community organizations and both contributions and line-item commitments from churches.

HOW MAY CHURCHES GIVE CONTINUED SUPPORT TO HOPE MISSION CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES?
This ministry is dedicated to serving those in need in the name of Jesus Christ. We draw our leadership and volunteers from churches throughout Carteret County. Churches are encouraged to make an annual pledge of funds to this ministry by placing a line-item for Hope Mission Christian Ministries in their annual budgets. A suggested amount might aim at pledging $1.00 per month for each member of a congregation. Whatever amount can be given in Christ's name will be appreciated and well-used. Churches and pastors are also encouraged to send service-oriented church members to our ministry as volunteers.

HOW MAY YOU SUPPORT HOPE MISSION CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES?
By mailing a tax-deductible contribution to P.O. Box 1438, Morehead City, NC 28557

Hope Mission Christian Ministries seeks both one-time contributions as well as those who become regular supporters. Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual contributions are encouraged and appreciated. A BRIEF HISTORY OF HOPE MISSION CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES

  • Faith and Victory Church started a soup kitchen at their location on 702 Arendell Street, Morehead City NC in January 1990. The soup kitchen operated under the non-profit, tax exempt status of Faith and Victory Church.
  • Due to the increased number of persons in need of daily meals and the need for more financial support from the community, a decision was made to form "Hope Mission".
  • Hope Mission of Carteret County, INC., was incorporated July 29, 1991 and operated out of the Faith and Victory location until October of 1991.
  • In October of 1991 a vacant facility located at 1306 Arendell Street became available to the Mission.
  • In April of 1992, after a brief search, property located at 1412 Bridges Street was found and purchased with the assistance of local charitable organizations, churches, businesses and private individuals.
  • Habitat for Humanity took over the location at 1412 Bridges and constructed the present building located at 1410 Bridges Street for Hope Mission.
  • Hope Mission now has 5 employees. All other persons involved with the mission are on a volunteer basis.
