“Serving others with many hands and one heart”

To All the Friends of Hope Mission,

You have read it many times. Jesus stood to read from the scroll of Isaiah at the synagogue in Nazareth. Many who heard him would have known Him. Nazareth was His hometown, where as a little boy and young man He worked with His father, Joseph the carpenter.

Pastor Gene and Fred

Now almost 30 years old and with news about His ministry spreading across Galilee, Jesus read this passage with all eyes on Him.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18–19, NIV).

What did all this mean? It meant that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah promised by the prophets, the Anointed One sent from the Heavenly Father to redeem His people.
Jesus wasn’t just “Joseph’s son” (v. 22). He was the Son of God sent from Heaven by the Father to deliver and set men from their sins. He was announcing in public what the angel had privately told Joseph nearly 30 years before: “You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

Conceived by the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb, Jesus stepped out of eternity and into time as the sinless Son of Man and Son of God. The Word became flesh so that He could die on a cross for our sins, rise victorious from the grave, and ascend to the right hand of the Father. And now, He lives triumphantly by His Spirit in the hearts of those who have turned from their sin and received Him as their Savior.

This is the message of Christmas.
June and I want to thank you for your prayers and support of Hope Mission this year. With your partnership of “serving others with many hands and one heart” the Lord has used Hope Mission to proclaim the Good News of God’s grace and forgiveness to hundreds of people.

You have had a direct part in this through your prayers and financial support of Hope Mission.

June and I pray that each of you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving, a blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Serving him until we go or He comes,
Pastor Gene and June McLendon
