Open Heart - Open Handed Help

First and foremost, thank you for your kindness and generosity.                                                                       November 2013

Second, we need your help. During the past four months the number of meals we have served the community of Carteret County has increased while donations have decreased. Our food pantry is low.

We are partnering with Coastal Academy for Technology and Science (former Cape Lookout Marine Science High School) again this year, in serving a noon meal to those in school. Some ask why? They do not have kitchen facilities to serve meals, so Hope Mission is joining them in this effort.

God told the Israelites, “Do not shut your hand from your poor brother, but open you hand wide to him” (Deut. 15:7-8).  An open hand symbolizes the way God wanted His nation to provide for impoverished people -willingly & freely!

Here is how we can use your help. We would like to ask you to help us with one food item each month.

November Food Items:

  • Pasta Sauce
  • Tea Bags
  • Sugar
  • Napkins

The items donated to us will be served to the less fortunate citizens of our community, who without us, might otherwise go hungry.

“When we offer open-handed help to the poor, God blesses us for our kindness. (Proverbs, 19:17).

Your donations will be greatly appreciated! God Bless You!

Kudo's. We Couldn't Do It Without Your Help!

Many Thanks to: FFA (Future Farmers of America) through West Carteret High School, President Savannah Royal and YOM (Youth on Mission)  A Ministry of SCORE International, Director, Larry Grooms.

Recently the West Carteret High School Students who are Members of FFA not only volunteered at Hope Mission for approximately 10 hours but they also awarded us funding through a grant theFFA - Fansy received through the National FFA called “Invest 2 Fight Hunger”.  With this funding we were able to purchase much needed industrial fans to help keep the Mission Kitchen cool for the many volunteers who work there on a daily basis they also gave additional funding for food purchases to help in preparing our daily meals which serve approximately 130 persons a day. The National Grant awarded to West Carteret FFA gave a total of $1,000.00 in support of Hope Mission to help in supporting us as we serve our community! We want to thank each one who came and gave your time and thank you for choosing us along with other worthwhile organizations in our community as we all have the same goal to help those in need.

Wait there’s more …..

Last week we were blessed to have a youth group of youth from Staley Memorial Baptist Church from Burlington NC and Nall Memorial Baptist YOM 07-2013Church from Graham NC to volunteer at Hope Mission. While they were with us they not only volunteered to serve our community in the mission by cleaning to serving during the lunch hour they also made some much needed improvements to our Hope Mission sign in the front of the building! While they were with us they also entertained with musical instruments and singing during the lunch hour. When they ended their day at Hope Mission they continued by holding Vacation Bible School at Crystal Coast Church of the Nazarene. These youth and their chaperones are the top notch in our books and we want to publicly thank you for your services and service.

One last thanks …..

Next week another Youth Group will be with us and we anticipate another great week! They will be from Cool Springs Baptist Church from Jonesville NC. We want to thank them in advance as we anticipate another great team of workers!

Without volunteers and the different groups that come into our Community Kitchen each week we could not do all the things we are able to do to serve our community … it takes team work and we appreciate our Volunteers and Supporters!
